The Development Fund, on the initiative of the Middle School Administration and Program Coordinators, has started accepting applications for community projects’ funding from 9th graders since 2019. The implementation of community projects is one of the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Middle School program. The community project aims to develop students’ knowledge, their abilities, as well as to deepen their understanding of how to work together to make it better and to develop the community and the environment. The first funded community project in the 2018-19 academic year was the project of Arine Khanlari. At the beginning of the project, Arine designed and published 1000 calendars with the sights of lyceum. She sold those calendars in the Lyceum’s bookstore. As a result, 6 benches were placed in the Lyceum’s area with the proceeds from the sale of the calendars.
The 4 community programs funded by the foundation in the 2019-20 academic year are as follows:
The goal of the “Discovering the New, Discovering Us” project is to bring together art lovers who will study modern arts (including meetings and special courses with contemporary artists), the possible ways to apply them, and try to incorporate them into their daily lives. Then, as a final result, one of the exterior walls of the school is planned to be decorated, making it more colorful.
The “Stylish T-shirts” project to print 25 stylish T-shirts with the financial support of the foundation, according to a survey of students’ needs. Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts will go to the purchase of the upholstered chairs and their placement in the foyer.
“Clean Air in the Lyceum” project is funded by the Foundation to produce 30 carbon dioxide sensors. The project will solve the problem of study-related fatigue. In case of emergency, the devices will also feel the presence of dangerous gases.
“Healthy soul in a healthy body”. Due to a large number of sports events and the reception of guests, as well as the MS entrance exams, the students implementing this project have decided to renovate the floor of the MS gym. And since the complete renovation of the floor requires a lot of money, the students, in consultation with a number of specialists, decided to improve the floor with special floor paints and correct inaccuracies.
The further information on the projects will be updated.
